Concrete floor painting with Hagmans Golvfärg

Concrete floor painting with Hagmans Golvfärg

Optimize your concrete floor staining with Hagmans Golvfärg. Ensure a clean, prepared surface for the best adhesion and finish quality.

Concrete subfloor and its preparation

The quality of the paint application is only as good as the underlying surface and its preparation. Before painting, ensure the floor surface is clean and properly cured. A new or untreated concrete surface will always show a milky cementitious surface with poor adhesion properties. This layer should first be removed, for example, with a diamond grinder (available from most rental companies) or with hydrochloric acid. After treatment, clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner.

Treatment with hydrochloric acid:

  • Mix 1 part of conc. hydrochloric acid with nine parts of water
  • Moisten the floor with water
  • Apply the acid mixture with a brush
  • Rinse thoroughly with water until the surface is clean

For smaller areas, sand with a metal brush. Clean thoroughly with a vacuum cleaner. Cracks and unevenness can be repaired with Hagmans Golvspackel. Make sure that the floor does not release moisture. Check this by covering at least 1m² of the surface with a dense film and checking after one day for condensation. If the floor gives off moisture, it will be dark under the film. If unsure about the test result, we recommend applying a water vapor permeable epoxy paint coat.

Any oil stains left after standard cleaning can be topically cleaned with Hagmans Oljeätare. Cracks and unevenness can be repaired with Hagmans Golvspackel floor putty. Note: After all preparation work, thoroughly clean with a vacuum cleaner.
The best way to remove old paint is diamond sanding. If you refinish a previously painted floor, sand the floor surface to a matt finish and scrape off any peeling paint. The result of refinishing depends on the durability of the old paint and its adhesion to the substrate.

Floor painting with Golvfärg 1K one-component paint

Golvfärg 1K is an easy-to-use, abrasion-resistant polyurethane/acrylate paint for floors and walls, both indoors and outdoors. It is often used for concrete but can also be applied to other surfaces. Suitable for stairs, cellars, balconies, household use, and public areas on surfaces subject to light mechanical loads.

  • Water vapor is permeable and colorfast
  • The paint can be applied to a new cement surface after 1 week
  • Water-based and fast-drying
  • For indoor and outdoor use ( Note: for wooden surfaces only indoors; for untreated wooden surfaces, we recommend Hagmans Spärrgrund)
  • To increase scratch wear and give even better durability, the surface can be recoated with Klarlack 1K
  • Gloss 40 ( semi-gloss)

If the base surface is a tree, subsoilGolvfärg 1Kapprox. 8 m²/l on absorbent surface diluted with 10-20% water
Topcoat / overcoatSpärrgrundapprox. 8 m²/l Golvfärg 1K approx. 10 m²/l
Topcoat/overcoatGolvfärg 1Kapprox. 10 m²/l

Instructions

  1. Clean the surface to be painted. When painting cement, remove the cement topcoat by sanding.
  2. Hagmans Golvspackel is used to fill more minor cracks and irregularities. For major damage and repairs, coarse repair mortar is used.
  3. Sand the existing paint or varnish matt. Use Spärrgrund on clean wood surfaces. We recommend applying 1-2 coats. Treat the tine areas and areas where resin release is possible twice.
  4. Depending on the surface, prime with Hagmans Spärrgrund or Golvfärg 1K. Ensure good ventilation.
  5. Wait 3 hours before applying the next coat (at +15°C). Finally, apply the final undiluted coat of Golvfärg 1K.

Remember

  • Always prepare surfaces according to Hagmans instructions.
  • The floor can be used for about 12 hours after coating.
  • Full surface durability is achieved after 5-7 days.

Floor painting with Golvfärg EP-V two-component paint

Golvfärg EP-V 2K is a water-based, abrasion-resistant, 2-component epoxy paint. It is mainly intended for concrete floors but can also be used on wood and fibreboard (MDF). It is suitable for domestic floors and floors subjected to light to medium mechanical loads on industrial, commercial, and agricultural premises.

  • Usage time 2 hours
  • For internal use
  • The paint can be applied to a new cement surface after 1 week
  • Chemical resistant
  • Water vapour permeable
  • Gloss approx. 80 (glossy)

You will need

For repairs/repairs:GolvspackelDepending on the degree of damage
Bottom layer:Golvfärg EP-Vapprox. 8 m²/kg On the absorbent surface, dilute with 10-20% water
Topcoat/overcoat:Golvfärg EP-Vapprox. 8 m²/kg

Instructions

  1. Clean the surface to be painted. When painting concrete, remove the cement top layer by sanding.
  2. Hagmans Golvspackel is used to fill more minor cracks and irregularities. For significant damage and repairs, coarse repair mortar is used.
  3. Prime with Hagmans Golvfärg EP-V in the selected shade. When priming absorbent substrates, dilute the product with approx. 10-20% water.
  4. Wait about 10 hours, but no longer than 24 hours, before applying the next coat. Apply the second coat without thinning. Ensure good ventilation to avoid water evaporation before the paint dries.

Remember…

  • Always prepare surfaces according to Hagmans instructions.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing to avoid skin contact.
  • Ensure good ventilation. Humidity above 85% RH can cause a matt, uneven surface finish.
  • If more than 24 hours have elapsed before the second coat is applied, the surface must be sanded to a matt finish to ensure good adhesion to the next coat.
  • Instruments can be cleaned with water and alcohol.
  • The painted floor can be used after 24 hours.
  • After about 5-7 days, it reaches full use.

Anti-slip surface

Hagmans Sand 18 V, a 5-7 % slip-resistant additive, can be added to the paint to obtain a slip-resistant surface. For rougher surfaces, Hagmans Microperl glass beads can be sprinkled on the fresh paint after the floor has been painted at approximately a rate. 30-50 g/m2.
