Tips for painting

Restoring painted or varnished wooden garden furniture

1. Clean dust and dirt from the surfaces using a brush. Remove resin from knot locations.
2. Clean dusty surfaces with a cleaning agent, according to the instructions on the label. Cover glass surfaces and surfaces that you do not wish to paint. Carefully rinse the surfaces with water and let them dry.
3. Remove peeling or weakly attached layers of old paint or varnish using a scraper. Remove old, peeling window putty.
4. Exchange wood parts that have deteriorated and become grey.
5. Polish the old, strong layer of paint or varnish until it becomes matted, and then remove polishing dust with a brush.
6. Prime the cleaned wooden surfaces with a wood impregnating agent.
7. Prime nail heads or other corroding metal parts with a suitable anti-corrosion primer.
8. Prime the surface with a finishing paint that is diluted 5% by volume according to the instructions on the label.
9. Paint the surface once or twice with a paint finish.
10. Clean the tools according to instructions on the label, using water or solvent.
